The Theory Test is the first test that MUST be passed. You cannot book a Practical Test without a Theory certificate number. The Test is in two parts. Part one is a multiple choice test consisting of fifty questions. You must answer 43 correctly out of 50 to pass. The second part is a Hazard Perception Test. There are fourteen clips and fifteen hazards to spot. One clip has two hazards. Your score depends on how quickly you spot the hazards. The pass mark is 44 out of 75. We encourage our pupils and all learner drivers to continually learn and test themselves using a wide variety of resources available to ensure you have all the help and knowledge you need to become safe, informed, drivers. Your practical driving test will start with an eyesight check and some vehicle safety questions. You will then start your practical driving test which will include some specific manoeuvres.

The driving part of your test will last about 40 minutes. Throughout the test your examiner will be looking for an overall safe standard of driving, including when you are carrying out the set exercises. You can make up to 15 driving faults and still pass the test (16 or more results in failure). However, if you commit one serious or dangerous fault you will fail the test. The driving test is straightforward and has been designed to see if you can drive safely and know The Highway Code and can demonstrate this through your driving.
